Hard work pays off for dux
A Bunbury Cathedral Grammar School student has shown his talent by being named dux of a specialised training course involving 31 students.
Year 12 student Braden House completed a Certificate II in Telecommunications through Integracom Training, and was rewarded for his marks, leadership skills and positive work attitude.
‘‘It felt pretty good to be named dux, it is like the hard work throughout the year has paid off,’’ he said.
Braden said with the rollout of the National Broadband Network, there would be a lot of job opportunities in the future.
He is now doing casual work at Bunbury Telecom Services, where he did his work placement during the course.
‘‘Going into the workplace has shown me a lot more,’’ Braden said.
‘‘Everything I learnt from my mentors put all my theory into context.’’
The school’s vocational education and training coordinator Belinda Walker said Bunbury Telecom Services and Integracom Training had been a pioneer in VET programs.
‘‘Not everyone learns at their best in a classroom, some thrive in a practical learning environment,’’ she said.
‘‘With an increase in school leaving ages, we have to do what we can to helpVET students get employment.’’
