SW water project gets boost
The Department of Agriculture and Food’s More Dollars per Drop water efficiency project has been enhanced by the appointment of a new development officer to help South West growers.
Dave Williams is employed by Fruit West and Wines of WA and is based at the department’s Bunbury offices.
He has extensive experience in the agricultural industry, including vegetable and fruit exports, avocado orchard practice, natural resource management and the Smartfresh quality system for horticulture.
Mr Williams said he was excited at joining the More Dollars per Drop project and helping growers to improve their water use efficiency.
‘‘With rising input costs and increasing pressure on our resources, I cannot think of a more sensible business focus for irrigators,’’ Mr Williams said.
‘‘The project covers three key areas including confidential farm irrigation assessments, development of a useful online water use support tool and commercial demonstrations of efficient water use practices.’’
Growers in the fruit, vegetable, viticulture and dairy industries can participate in the More Dollars per Drop project by contacting Dave Williams on 9780 6100 or email david.williams@agric.wa.gov.au.
