A month of planning culminated in a training exercise at Bunbury business WesTrac with emergency services personnel last Monday.

Crews from St John Ambulance and Department of Fire and Emergency Services visited the industrial equipment company's Wilson Road site for the 90-minute rescue exercise.

A dummy represented a person trapped between a boom and front differential of a loader.

WesTrac emergency management advisor Aaron Kain said the morning went according to plan and without incident.

"It went really well, we achieved everything we wanted to," he said.

"It was quite a technical rescue and put everyone through their paces.

"WesTrac got to practice our emergency response procedures and it was a great training exercise for St John and DFES."

Mr Kain said all the organisations involved supplied unique knowledge and equipment, with WesTrac providing technical information on the machines so emergency services crews could learn how to complete the rescue.

"The three-way relationship worked really well and the biggest thing we took out of it is that cooperation between agencies and industries is super important," he said.

"WesTrac now has the start of a relationship with these agencies so if something happens, the WesTrac site is not a surprise."

Mr Kain said the month of planning for the exercise included a "massive risk assessment" to ensure no corners were cut and there would not be injuries during the complex routine.
