The City of Bunbury is expected to grant the Bunbury Yacht Club a new lease for five years at its current site on the Leschenault Inlet.

The club has been waiting since November 2010, when the lease was put in a hold-over clause, while awaiting the conclusion of negotiations to the Bunbury Waterfront Redevelopment Project.

The State Government has recently advised the are a of Koombana South is not included in Stage 1 of the Waterfront development.

The Lands Minister Brendan Grylls has provided his in-principle approval for the lease.

The Bunbury Yacht Club has occupied the site since 1878, has 130 members and an estimated value of $2.5 million.

The club is self funded, debt free and houses the heritage-listed boat — the pilot boat Koombana.

After five years the club is expected to seek renewal of the lease for a further five years.
