STM Loves: Cyndi Lauper, The Moogai, The Bridge House, Burrata Bar, A Bite To Eat With Alice & Brett Whiteley

Cyndi Lauper One of pop’s true icons, Cyndi Lauper, is hanging up the mic with a farewell tour, featuring The Veronicas, which hits Perth in 2025. Known for her distinctive voice, punk-inspired glamour and infectious live shows, Lauper is a music powerhouse — her anthems include Girls Just Wanna Have Fun, True Colours and Time After Time — and an advocate for the rights of women and the LGBTIQA+ community. The tour follows the release of Let The Canary Sing, a documentary about her life. The show will be at RAC Arena on April 12. Tickets are on sale now. The Moogai If you’re looking for a spooky way to spend Halloween, this First Nations psychological horror film is in cinemas on October 31. Recently awarded the $100,000 film prize at Cinefest Oz, it tells the story of a young mother (WAAPA graduate Shari Sebbens) who starts to see a malevolent spirit she believes is trying to take her newborn baby. The film, which explores intergenerational trauma and the Stolen Generations, also stars WA’s Meyne Wyatt and is from the producers of The Babadook and Talk To Me. The Bridge House This eatery is opening on October 30 in the heart of North Fremantle, in the charming venue that once housed Harvest Restaurant and then Habitue. The Bridge House is backed by businessman George Grundy, who has done extensive renovations designed to blend the old bones of the 1925 building with a warm, modern feel that includes a 10-seater private dining room. Grundy has recruited chef Trent Dawson (ex Nikola Estate) to create a modern Australian menu with European leanings. See bridgehousefreo.com.au. Brett Whiteley Perth art lovers can get a glimpse into the world of the renowned Australian artist, as Brett Whiteley: Inside The Studio arrives at John Curtin Gallery. The exhibition of painting, drawing, sculpture, music and photography is touring while the Brett Whiteley Studio (the space where he lived and worked until he died in 1992, now run as a museum by the Art Gallery of NSW) is closed for renovations. The space opened this week at the Curtin University gallery, alongside a display of works from leading contemporary artist Aida Tomescu and a retrospective of winners of the John Stringer Prize. The free exhibition will run until December 15. Burrata Bar The answer to all your cheese dreams has arrived: this popular food truck is slinging its melty wares, including fan favourites such as burrata bowls, focaccias and cheesy pasta, from a permanent home in the laneway at 70 Aberdeen Street in Northbridge. It’s open Monday to Sunday 7am-3pm and for weekend dinners on Friday and Saturday, 5pm-10pm. Alice Zaslavsky The charismatic ex-MasterChef foodie is launching her own weeknight cooking show, A Bit To Eat With Alice — and she has the likes of actor Pia Miranda, singer Anthony Callea and legendary cook Stephanie Alexander lined up to appear. The show, commissioned for 50 episodes, sees Zaslavsky invite guests into her studio kitchen, where she creates a dish inspired by them, gets them to bring in their favourite ingredient, and also shows them how to cook with something they find challenging. Our Screen Queen Clare Rigden says it’s “an absolute delight”. The first episode is out on October 28 at 6pm on the ABC.
