Celebrations continue as Great Southern-listed Brisbane ruckman Kalin Lane soaks up AFL premiership victory

Injured Great Southern ruckman Kalin Lane is soaking up the premiership celebrations with his teammates after Brisbane’s 60-point mauling of Sydney on Saturday. The Lions received grand final redemption with their 18.12 (120) to 9.6 (60) victory over the Swans, avenging for last year’s heartbreaking loss to Collingwood. A seven-goal second term helped set the Lions up for grand final glory in front of more than 100,000 people at the MCG, securing their first flag since 2003. Among the Lions players and support staff was Denmark-Walpole junior Lane, who was picked up in the 2021 mid-season draft. Lane has endured a cruel season, rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament while playing VFL for the Lions in June. He was ruled out for the rest of the year and underwent surgery, with the 22-year-old coming out of contract at season’s end having not yet played an AFL game. However Lane, who has shown great promise as a ruckman and a key forward, was out on the ground to be a part of the Lions’ premiership celebrations just moments after the final siren. Lane lives with fellow Claremont product Zane Zakostelsky and Lions premiership defender Darcy Wilmot. The trio arrived at the club’s Mad Monday celebrations together and were pictured in a shot together with the premiership cup on the MCG on Saturday. Lane was also pictured in a cheeky selfie the Lions posted with their entire playing group out on the MCG in the hours after the game as the party continued.
