The Bulls and Magpies lined up at Collingwood Park for a historic final clash on Friday, with the Bulls out for back-to-back titles and the Magpies chasing a first flag.

The two teams clashed in the qualifying final, and the Magpies came out victorious, but a convincing win in last week’s preliminary final from the Bulls made sure the reigning premiers were not counted out.

Mt Barker lived up to their usual fierce playing style and made a fast start in the first term, leaving Denmark Walpole trailing at quarter time.

A major from the Griffiths got things moving for the Bulls, and the team chased the major with two minors to put them ahead of the Magpies by eight points (1.3) at quarter time, with the Magpies trailing with only one point on the board.

Gritty defensive play from both teams almost kept both sides scoreless in the second quarter, but Mikayla Balloch managed a goal from off the ground for the Bulls midway through the second term, building on Mt Barker’s early work in the front line.

The Bulls notched another three goals in the third quarter to make the scores 34 (5.4) to one (0.1), with majors from vice captain Kaitlin Eades, Zoe Keley, and another from Tajah Griffiths in the dying minutes of the third term putting the Bulls ahead by 33 points with only eighteen minutes left to play.
