GSFLW 2025: Kangas celebrate hard-fought win in Youth Girls grand final in front of home crowd

North Albany celebrate claiming the 2025 Great Southern Football League Youth Girls premiership with a hard-fought grand final win over Railways at their home ground.
The Kangas’ Kimberley Duncan won grand final player of the match, and coach Simon Deegan said a few emotional words before the Kangas players stood up to claim their grand final medals.
“That was a sensational game, at no point did I think we had that in the bag,” he said.
“Keep working at it girls, this competition is just going to grow and keep getting better, and it’s going to make the game better and better.”

The Kangas made a fast start, with Madeleine Tyson scoring the first major of the game, but a major from Tahlieshia Jones-Ginger put the Tigers back in contention and the scores stood even at six points (1.0) for both teams at half time.
Handy work from the Tigers backline with strong marks near the goal square helped keep the Kangas in check during the second quarter, leaving both teams looking to break away in the second half of the game.
The Kangas made a strong push in the third quarter, breaking away from the Tigers with two consecutive majors from vice captain Pippa Fiegert and captain Elsie Clayton to put the Kangas ahead by 14 points with the Tigers trailing on 6 points(1.0).
The Tigers took the fight to the Kangas in the final term, with Pearl Anderson and Verna Anderson kicking two consecutive goals to close the margin on the Kangas.
However, the Kangas kept a determined Tigers side on the defensive, holding them off to win the game on 22 points (3.4), with the Tigers trailing on 18 (3.0).
