Pirates backed up their stellar season with a resounding three sets to nil win, with Nienke Tempelman taking home the most valuable player honours in the decider and Ashleigh Tomasetig was crowned the women’s season MVP.

The men’s grand final between OGs and Pirates was one for the ages, with a massive five-set game which almost reached two hours of game play.

OGs were seeking payback for the last year’s grand final defeat and came out firing, winning the first two sets with near-flawless game play.

The Pirates, however, proved why they were reigning champions and they fired up in the third set, closely winning it 25-23.

With that momentum, Pirates went on to win the next two sets to seal their come from behind win, 3-2.

Zac Clapp took out the final MVP award and young gun Will Macaulay took out the season MVP.

The social and competitive mixed leagues had their grand finals on Tuesday, October 10 with Spike Wazowski winning the social competition and Brazil For What? winning the competitive mixed league.

It was a record-breaking year for the Albany Volleyball Association since COVID-19, with 41 teams across four different leagues playing two nights a week.
