BOM warns of flash flooding, damaging winds across NSW as hailstones pound Sydney

Hail pounded parts of Sydney and regional NSW across Tuesday.

Large storms across coastal areas of the state sparked warnings for flash flooding, damaging wind and large hailstones from the Bureau of Meteorology.

The warnings apply to people in the Hunter, metro, Southern Tablelands, Illawarra, Central Tablelands and South West Slopes regions.

Video posted from western Sydney on Tuesday afternoon shows a heavy dumping of small hailstones.

The video was reportedly taken at Baulkham Hills, just north of Parramatta.

The weather system has moved north and severe storm warnings for the ACT and Snowy Mountains have been cancelled.

“Thunderstorms occurring along a trough over southeastern NSW,” the bureau warning issued at 4.30pm said.

“Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding over the next several hours in parts of the Hunter, Metropolitan and Central Tablelands districts. Locations which may be affected include Gosford, The Entrance, Woy Woy, Putty, Wollombi and Kulnura.”
