Kings claim number one spot after undefeated season
The Kings have knocked the Tigers off the top spot perch on the Broome Basketball Association men’s A grade ladder after several wins.
The Tigers, who were on top after the first few rounds of the wet season competition, have now sunk to second place after taking their second loss of the season to the Kings in round six, 66 to 63.
Meanwhile the Kings have kept their records clean without a single defeat tarnishing their season.
But the Tigers still have a chance to redeem themselves when the two teams clash on court in round nine on November 6.
Both teams clocked solid wins in round 8 on October 30 as the Kings went up against the Jets and the Tigers took on the Gantheaume Pointers down on the Broome Recreation and Aquatic Center basketball courts.
By the end of the first half the Tigers had nearly doubled the Gantheaume Pointers score, 31 to 18.
Efforts made by the Pointers to regain ground were quickly extinguished as the Tigers continued to control the court and ultimately take home the win, 60 to 45.
The top scorer of the match was the Tigers’ Lattrell Matthews on 30 points.
The Jets however managed to hold their own against the Kings with the top team clinging on to a thin margin by half time, 30 to 23.
But strides made in the second half by the Kings held the Jets at bay, keeping their perfect record intact, 68 to 46.
The top scorer of the match was the Kings’ Trevor Menmuir on 25 points.
