Leschenault’s commanding grip on top spot of the BDCA first-grade table continued on Saturday, with an uncompromising 138-run win over Dalyellup at Dalyellup College.

The Green Caps, who have yet to taste defeat at first-grade level this season, blasted 4-313 from their allocated 50 overs — with Tyne Dodds (106 off 126 balls) and Steve Denison (91 off 71 balls — nine fours, six sixes) the chief destroyers.

In response, the home side toiled gallantly at times, however, were eventually dismissed for 175 with two overs left in the day.

Keen to make a good score on a deck ideal for batting, Leschanault openers Jamie Harrison and Denison wasted little time getting their eyes in.

Denison began one of his trademark aerial crusades, scoring 14 off his first eight balls and peppering the Dalyellup bowling attack across all areas of the ground.

Harrison fell early but this failed to deter Denison, who was joined in the middle by mature teenage batter Tyne Dodds.

The duo put on a 132-run partnership for the second wicket.

Denison’s fun eventually came to an end nine runs short of what would have been a well-deserved century, however, he was able to look on with pride a short time later as Dodds notched up one of his own.

Chasing 314, victory appeared to be a forlorn hope for the hosts, however, despite the odds, they went about their assignment in a positive fashion.

Openers Keagan Lynch — as usual refusing to give his wicket away cheaply — and Mitchell Boyle put on an impressive 74-run opening stand before the Green Caps’ bowling unit managed to turn the tide and instigate a flurry of late wickets.

After the match, Leschenault players rallied around Brody D’Agostino, after the veteran seamer had become the first player to notch up 200 first-grade appearances for the Green Caps.
