A few years ago, Colts entered the BDCA women’s competition with a desire for their players to enjoy playing cricket in a fun and pleasant environment.

Fast forward to 2023, and this still occurs, however Shani Waugh’s team are making winning a regular habit.

Pitted against Marist on Sunday morning at the Bunbury Recreation Ground, Colts outlasted the Blues by two wickets, in a game which ebbed and flowed from the outset.

The reigning premiers began the game disastrously, crashing to 4-6 by the end of the second over.

A short time later, it became 5-12, following skipper Jessica Barton spooning a shot into the grasp of Emma Bresser, who had only seconds earlier delivered the ball.

However, even with the odds seemingly stacked against them, this Blues team never throws the towel in — and a calculated 52 off 67 balls by Tenille Barbetti helped drag the visitors out from a fast-approaching abyss.

Chasing 98 for victory, Colts fell to 3-32, before a vital partnership between WA Country women’s batter Emily Allen and Waugh set the hosts back on course for their triumph.

At Leschenault Recreation Park, it was the Stephanie Jolly show once again, as Donnybrook thrashed the Green Caps by 132 runs.

Jolly, who is on the radar of WA Cricket development staff, initially retired not out after scoring 51 from 38 balls. However, following a late batting collapse, she returned to the crease — finishing unbeaten on 72 from only 47 deliveries.

Chasing 184 for victory, the Green Caps were never allowed to gain a foothold in the contest, given the uniform nature of quality bowling from the Dons.

In B-grade action, Dalyellup’s eight-wicket victory over the Leschenault was boosted by 51 extras, while Eaton had four batters retire not out in their 69-run win over Burekup.
