BSBL 2022-23: Aces Sky extend undefeated streak to seventh win with victory over Tornadoes Black

Aces Sky have continued to maintain a strong hold of the competition after extending their undefeated streak to a seventh win, defeating Tornadoes Black by 29 points.

The table toppers went head to head against Tornadoes Black during the ninth round of the Bunbury Senior Basketball League women’s A Grade competition at the South West Sports Centre on Friday.

Although both sides did not have high numbers, both teams were quick to put the pressure on each other early in the contest.

It was not until three minutes into the opening term that a basket would be made, with Aces Sky’s Carly Boag making the first shot.

What followed was Aces Sky beginning to build up a lead while Tornadoes Black continued fighting hard to keep up with interceptions from Bree Chalk and strong pressure from Zaya Black and Holly Bilcich.

At quarter time, Aces Sky led 17-8.

A quick shot by Black saw Tornadoes Black push for an early comeback attempt during the second quarter, while Bilcich continued to move quickly throughout the court.

However, Tiahna Sears helped Aces Sky hold strong with several baskets helping them extend their lead, along with continuing a high-pressure approach in defence.

Slight confusion among Tornadoes Black also saw Aces Sky capitalise and maintain their lead 26-14 at half time.

The third quarter saw Aces Sky really start to take control of the match with Boag driving the ball down the court and helping to extend their lead.

Although Tornadoes Black continued to fight hard, Aces Sky had blown out the margin to 20 points at the final change.

While Tornadoes Black tried one last attempt at a comeback during the final quarter, they struggled to score until Chalk made a shot at the six minute mark.

Despite some late brilliance in defence by Bilcich, Aces Sky remained composed and sealed the win 71-42.

Elsewhere, Aces Navy dominated Eaton Eagles 91-65, while Tornadoes Red had the bye.
