A new intake of doctors are set to appear in Bunbury as the WA Country Health Service records an all-time high for new regional doctors across the State.

A total of 25 budding doctors will kickstart their careers in the regions, with 10 heading to Bunbury Regional Hospital.

Joining the BRH team will be Jack Paterson, Seth McKenna, Rory van der Linden, Mark Hoey, Gracie Stacey, Jade House, Katelyn Edis, Sarah King, Alice Dix-Matthews and Mary Plant.

Other medical interns will start their industry journey in Albany, Broome and — for the first time — Geraldton on a 12-month internship.

WACHS chief executive Jeff Moffet hosted an orientation at the WACHS Medical Education Unit last week to welcome them to the industry.

“Workforce pressures across the health system are pretty well documented,” Mr Moffet said.

“As an organisation, we’ve worked really hard to attract a record number of medical interns and I know these new doctors will be highly valued members of the communities they’re about to live and work in.”

Mr Moffet said WACHS offered all interns accommodation subsidies, travel allowances and one-on-one mentor support to make the transition to country WA easier.

“We’re also committed to fostering their talent and providing them with ongoing professional development opportunities — we know that supporting the next generation of doctors will ultimately support the ongoing health and vitality of country communities,” he said.

Along with doctors, this year has also seen a record intake of intern pharmacists and nurses and midwives to WACHS.
