Bunbury set to come alive for NAIDOC Week with multiple events celebrating First Nations people and culture

There will be plenty of ways for Bunbury residents to commemorate NAIDOC Week over the coming days, with a smorgasbord of activities and events on offer. The start of the week has already seen a number of events being held, including a flag raising and opening ceremony at the Graham Bricknell Memorial Music Shell on Monday. Activities continue on Tuesday with the South West Aboriginal Medical Service holding an elders lunch. Wednesday is set to be a busy day for events, with four planned across the city. Things kick off from 9am with Enable hosting a Dreaming stories and short movies day at its Beach Road offices, which runs to 4pm. At the Bunbury Tower, the WA Country Health Service will hold a cultural workshop stall from 10am to 2pm, while the LYNKJET Empowerment Ladies Day will be held at the Bunbury Catholic College hall. The day concludes at the hall with the Walk Down Memory Lane Coolbaroo Club Country and Western Karaoke event being held from 5.30pm. A mixed darts competition will be held at the Bunbury Football Club on Thursday from 6pm, before activities crank up a gear on Friday. WACHS will hold its NAIDOC breakfast from 7.30am and its NAIDOC lunch from 12pm at Bunbury Hospital’s Blue Wren Cafe, while SWAMS’ Family Fun Day kicks off at 10am at the Bunbury Trotting Track. On Friday night the South West Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community holds its night of nights, with the annual NAIDOC ball and awards being held at the Bunbury Regional Entertainment Centre from 6pm. Those wanting to attend something a bit earlier have the option of a silent disco at Enable’s Bunbury office between 5pm and 7pm. BREC hosts a performance of The Visitors from 7.30pm on Saturday, before events wrap up on Sunday with a youth community barbecue and yarning three-point shootout competition at the Koolambidi Woola Youth Precinct.
