A winter morning chill was no match for two Donnybrook students, who braved the cold to shed their locks for a good cause on Friday.

Donnybrook District High School Year 6 and 7 students Aiden Behan and Erin Grey raised more than $3400 by stepping up to shave their heads for the World’s Greatest Shave.

Aiden, pictured, said he wanted to shave his head after reading about a boy who did the World’s Greatest Shave and made a wig for someone.

“It really inspired me to do it and I’ve been growing my hair for two years,” he said.

“I think that I really wanted to do it because I like to help people.”

It was an emotional scene for Erin, who let loose a few tears after her hair was cut.

“It was scary and I’ve never cut that much hair off before,” she said.

Erin said she had been wanting to shave her head for a long time and thought the World’s Greatest Shave was a worthy cause.

“It would obviously be really sad for kids with leukaemia and I thought to help them would be a good thing,” she said.

The pair encouraged any other young people thinking of taking the leap and cutting their locks to do so.

“You definitely should because it’s a great cause and it could help a lot of kids with leukaemia,” Erin said.

Aiden said it was almost a sad experience to lose all his hair, but it was fine because he knew it would grow back and it was for a good cause.

“I feel like I am very lucky because it will grow back and I feel for those people that don’t have hair,” he said.
