Drive-thru coffee shop Full of Beanz to build new store in Pelican Point after approval by City of Bunbury

A popular South West drive-thru coffee shop is set to expand after Bunbury councillors voted against the chief executive’s recommendation to refuse the business’ new Pelican Point location.

Councillors voted at a meeting last Tuesday to allow local coffee business Full of Beanz to build their third store at 10 Broadway in Pelican Point — joining their already successful stores on Sandridge Road in Bunbury and Grand Enterance in Treendale.

City documents said the proposed site was zoned as a ‘Local Centre’ and according to one of its local planning schemes, a drive through facility was not permitted.

But the City’s chief executive offered an alternative recommendation for the council to approve the application subject to 11 conditions including work beginning within two years and a landscaping plan being submitted.

Full of Beanz owner Matt Fink said he thrilled the location had been improved.

“There was definitely relief and excitement for us because a lot of work had gone in beforehand designing the site to make sure it would go really well and provide a great service for the immediate community,” he said.

A number of nearby landowners and occupiers objected to the proposal and neighbour Peter Morrison gave a deputation at the council meeting and shared his concerns about the traffic and safety issues at the Sandridge Road and Treendale store, which he believed would flow onto the Pelican Point location.

Mr Fink said the new cafe was designed with the local residents in mind.

“We are in it for the long haul and we want to have a great long term relationship with the immediate residents and there will definitely be discounts provided,” he said.

“We have designed it with the local residents in mind in terms of the things we are providing.

“People will naturally compare it to the Sandridge Road site, but the new site is twice as big and has been designed with all of the latest technology and equipment to make it work smoothly.”

Bunbury Mayor Jaysen Miguel and Councillors Cheryl Kozisek, Karen Steele, Betty McCleary, Kris Plumb, Marina Quain and Tresslyn Smith voted for the project’s approval.
