Hundreds gather to celebrate NAIDOC Week with family day out in Bunbury
Hundreds gathered to celebrate NAIDOC Week at an event hosted by South West Aboriginal Medical Service (SWAMS) at the Bunbury Trotting Club on Friday (July 12).
SWAMS director of community services Nicole Bowser said it was a day for the community to come together and celebrate the Keep the Fire Burning theme.
“We want to bring all the community together to celebrate that theme and Aboriginal culture,” she said.
“I’d say we’ve had about 800 people coming through the doors today.
“It’s bee0 a really great day, and great to see so much support from the community.”
The crowd consisted of varying generations, along with community organisations and businesses.
The event featured a barbecue, kids entertainment, which included face painting, a performance by Fred Penny and family, and culturally diverse food tastings.
