The Philharmonic South West Orchestra is set to rock out the Bunbury Regional Entertainment Centre later this year with a classic twist on familiar songs.

As part of its effort to bring a contemporary twist to classical music for audiences, the orchestra will perform a curated collection of classic rock tunes played with epic style by a 50-strong ensemble.

The Symphonic Rock concert will bring anthems of rock by legendary artists to life on stage, with a repertoire promising to transcend the ordinary.

Set to redefine music lovers’ understanding of classical talent by bringing together the foot tappers and head bangers in the audience, this performance will cross boundaries and decades of music genres simultaneously.

Orchestra chair Celestine Pfuhl says the concert is something exciting and new for the orchestra, as it seeks to find continuity in members and audiences for years to come.

“We are thrilled to present a ground-breaking experience that departs from our traditional classical music performances,” she said.

“Our innovative program merges the talents of some of the most influential rock musicians with the grandeur of an orchestral symphony, creating a unique concert that blends classical and rock styles.

“We believe this fusion will captivate a diverse audience, offering something that appeals to both classical music enthusiasts and rock music fans.”

Ms Pfuhl said the concert is a long-anticipated project, allowing a reimagination of the role of the orchestra and showcasing a musical versatility in a completely new context.

“Our aim is to engage not only our loyal followers but also attract new audiences who might not typically attend a classical concert,” she said.

“By integrating a full orchestra with a dynamic rock band, talented singers and more, we are creating a spectacular performance that stands apart from anything we have done before.

“We hope this exciting blend of genres will provide an unforgettable experience for everyone in attendance.”

Brought together with the energy of a four-member rock band and a dynamic lead singer, the performance is sure to be one to remember.

Symphonic Rock will take to the stage at BREC on August 3.
