Shire of Dardanup to host community barbecues to spark conversations of health and wellbeing among residents

A combination of live entertainment and a good old-fashioned barbecue is set to bring communities together and discuss the topics that matter in a relaxed atmosphere in a new series of events by a South West council. The Shire of Dardanup is set to host a monthly series of Connected Community BBQs, with special guests presenting and sharing information in an effort to spark conversation about community programs and services on a range of health and wellbeing themes. The first barbecue is set to take place at the Eaton Community Library garden on Thursday November 10 and will include special guests from the South West Cancer Council and Dot’s Place speaking about the Find Cancer Early campaign and food provided by members of the Eaton Lions Club. Delivered by the Cancer Council WA, the Find Cancer Early campaign aims to improve cancer outcomes of regional West Australians, by increasing cancer symptom awareness and encouraging people to visit their doctor, clinic nurse or Aboriginal health worker early. Future Connected Community BBQs are planned for Dardanup and Burekup with special guests planned for each event to cover a range of topics. Dardanup Shire President Mick Bennett said it was important community members were aware of support services available to them and Connected Community BBQs provided a convenient and enjoyable opportunity to stay informed. “This event is about facilitating growth of our natural community supports by connecting participants to local service providers as well as creating new friendships,” he said. “What better way is there to connect and learn than through a good conversation, over a casual barbecue?”
