Souwest Jets’ open side lose to Peel Lightning by four goals in only game at Eaton Recreation Centre for 2025

Souwest Jets’ open side fell just short of grabbing their second win of the West Australian Netball League season on Sunday, losing a tight contest with Peel Lightning by four goals at Eaton Recreation Centre. In what will be the only game played in the South West by the club’s senior side in 2025, the Jets held a three-goal lead as late as the middle stages of the final term. But the visitors closed out the contest with a run of seven unanswered goals to secure a 49-45 victory. The Jets were facing a six-goal deficit in the third term but responded by scoring 14 of the next 19 goals to haul themselves back into the contest. In the early game, the club’s under-21 side had a better result, beating the Lightning by eight goals. A dominant 20-11 opening term helped the Jets create a buffer they held for the remainder of the contest in an eventual 60-52 victory. Goal shooter Lily Knight continued a dominant season with another 48 goals in the game, with the Eaton product currently leading the competition’s goal-scoring charts with 157 through four games. The club’s futures side defeated Southside Demons by six goals in their penultimate game of the season at Gold Netball Centre on Saturday. The Jets finished the competition in fourth on the ladder with three wins from their seven games. No finals are played in the futures competition but the club will close out their season with a game against third-placed finishers Western Roar on Saturday. The club’s open and under-21 sides will take on Hamersley Comets at the Netball Centre on Wednesday in what shapes as a winnable game for both teams.
