Souwest Jets players Ruth Aryang, Sophie Eastaugh, Shaye Skraha to represent WA in national championship

The rising talent of the Souwest Jets is set to be showcased on the national stage with three players given an opportunity to represent WA later this year. Star defender Ruth Aryang, homegrown talent Shaye Skraha and new recruit Sophie Eastaugh were all announced to be part of the 2022 Netball WA under 19 squad, set to compete in the National Netball Championships taking place in Hobart between April 19 and 24. The announcement comes after Aryang took on a special opportunity to continue honing her craft as a training partner with the West Coast Fever. Eastaugh was recruited by the Jets late last year, reuniting with her older sister Ella after spending the 2021 WANL season with the East Fremantle Sharks. Bunbury’s Shaye Skraha was announced as part of the extended squad. The trio will be joined by their head coach Karly Guadagnin, who was announced to coach the under 19s squad. Guadagnin said she was “really looking forward to the opportunity to coach some of the best talent at the WA level”. “Representing WA is a privilege and I’m excited to see what we can produce at the competition,” she said. “Not only are we representing WA but we are now the West Coast Fever Futures program so we are representing West Coast Fever and looking to help develop future Fever players.” Souwest Jets president Megan Burvill said the club was “extremely proud” of all of the South West girls who made the team and extended squad. “It’s great to see our South West talent being represented at the next level,” she said. “We know how hard these girls have worked to achieve this, whilst giving back to our community, and we wish the team all the best at nationals.” The National Netball Championships provides young talent a chance to represent their State or Territory as well as a pathway towards catching the eye of talent scouts.
