As the 2023 South West Football League season draws closer, the Bunbury Football Club and Swan Districts came together for a friendly pre-season match in the name of charity.

Bunbury Bulldogs played host to a series of pre-season matches at Payne Park on Saturday, including the charity match between Swan Districts Metro and Bunbury Football Club/Swan Districts Country, raising money for Solaris Cancer Care.

Following the day’s festivities, which included appearances by former Fremantle Docker Tobe Watson, Nathan Ireland, Aiden Clarke, Matt Germs, Kade Wallrodt and Nathan Blakely, more than $5000 was raised.

Earlier in the day, the Bunbury Bulldogs’ Women’s side took on the Harvey Bulls in a pre-season skirmish, Bunbury’s league and reserves players engaged in an intraclub match, while the Bunbury Colts outfit went up against Harvey-Brunswick-Leschenault colts.

Along with gate proceeds going to Solaris Cancer Care, a raffle was held as well as a post-game auction in a bid to raise additional funds.

It comes as teams across the SWFL have been taking part in various pre-season matches against clubs from the Perth and Peel regions before competition officially kicks off from March 25.

Reigning premiers Augusta-Margaret River hosted the Pinjarra Tigers and the Eaton Boomers went up against the Dunsborough Sharks in warm conditions.
