By the numbers: Victoria's crime problem keeps growing
VICTORIA'S CRIME STATISTICS FOR YEAR ENDING SEPTEMBER 30:
* Criminal incidents increased to 431,683, an increase of 15 per cent on the year before and the highest since the Crime Statistics Agency started recording in 2004/05
BURGLARIES AND THEFT
* Property and deception offences have the largest increases
* Theft from a motor vehicle offences increased by 13,924 to 68,042
* Theft from a retail store jumped by 9635 to 35,951 offences
* Other theft offences grew by 8842 to 53,894, in particular petrol theft
* Stealing motor vehicles role by 6408 to 25,773
* There were 28,432 home burglaries
* Aggravated burglaries most common in metropolitan Melbourne, with one third linked to stolen cars
FAMILY VIOLENCE
* Victoria recorded more than 100,000 family violence incidents for the first time
* A total of 102,082 family violence incidents were responded to, an increase of 8850
* Thirty women killed, including 12 in regional Victoria
* Aggravated assault of a female increased by 92.2 per cent year-on-year
* Accounts for one fifth of all crime in Victoria
* A third of perpetrators are repeat offenders
* Repeat offenders are most prevalent in regional Victoria
CHILD AND YOUTH CRIME
* Those aged 10 to 24 were behind 50,516 incidents, an increase of 13.5 per cent
* Crimes by children aged 10 to 17 have reached their highest levels since 2009
* Teens aged 14 to 17 were responsible for the most child crime, totalling 20,753
* The same age range accounted for 75 per cent of first time child offenders
* Children aged 10 to 17 and youths aged 18 to 24 account for almost half of all aggravated burglary offenders
