State security investigation group detectives descend on Heathridge home after anti-Semitic graffiti attack

Detectives are investigating a shocking case of anti-Semitic graffiti on a real-estate sign in Heathridge, with the homeowner blasting the culprits for their “offensive” attack. The sign, located on a recently sold property on Marybrook Drive, has been spraypainted with the words “F... Jew” on both sides. One side of the sign has also been spray-painted with an image of male genitalia. A police spokeswoman said it is believed the sign was defaced between 6.30pm on Monday and 7am on Tuesday. Detectives from the State security investigation group — who also handled the recent Dalkeith anti-Semitic graffiti incidents— arrived at the scene on Tuesday morning. Forensics attended the address a short time later, taking photos and scouring for fingerprints left on the sign. The homeowner, who is not Jewish and is due to move out on Saturday before the property is handed over to its new owners, lashed the culprits. “They are idiots, they have got no brains,” the resident, who did not want her name used, said. “They must be someone who is at the moment following what is going on between Palestine and Israel.” “What is this going to achieve? It annoys me because I’m moving, I don’t want that crap on my house.” The resident said the graffiti was “offensive to our whole community”. “Politics is politics, it’s a dirty business, but nobody has got the right to do that kind of thing,” she said. Another neighbour, who only wanted to be referred to by her first name, Katrina, said the incident was “unsettling”. “It was just after seven o’clock and I was just walking my dog . . . This stood out for me, mainly because obviously I’ve seen there have been some previous incidents, and this was very close to home,” she said. “It’s disturbing to see that kind of attitude, having worked with Jewish people, and I have actually been to Israel myself. “Is it just kids that just have no idea about what’s going on and just thought it was actually funny, or is it something a little bit deeper than that — someone who does genuinely have a dislike towards them? “Something like this is a little bit unsettling and very uncomfortable for us.” Jewish Community Council of WA president Geoff Midalia said he appreciated the support of WA Police as they continued their investigation. “Although this graffiti attack occurred at a distance from our community, it is nevertheless a disturbing act whenever and wherever it happens,” he said. The real estate agency on the damaged sign has been contacted for comment. WA Police said they take “any report of racial or religiously motivated crimes extremely seriously.” “There is no place for this kind of behaviour in our community and we will not tolerate crimes that undermine our way of life in Western Australia,” the spokeswoman said. It comes a fortnight after two men in their 20s were sentenced for their roles in an anti-Semitic vandalism spree across two days in Perth’s western suburbs. Damian Joshua Arkeveld and Justin Charles Robinson daubed the words “f... Jews” and a swastika on the wall of the Dalkeith home during the graffiti incidents.
