Daniel Jacob King: Gaming-related assault accused faces court, psychological report ordered

A Woorree man who allegedly bashed his brother-in-law unconscious following a gaming dispute has had his matter adjourned for a neuropsychological assessment. Daniel Jacob King, 20, appeared in Geraldton Magistrates Court on Thursday on one charge of endangering the life of a person. It was previously heard in court the incident took place on July 10 in a home in Woorree, where it was claimed Mr King repeatedly punched his 25-year-old brother-in-law in the nose, face, and mouth following a dispute over a PlayStation 5. Police say Mr King also sat on his brother-in-law, punching him before stamping on and kicking him. Police say a witness had to break them up, and the prosecution said at the time Mr King told police if he had not been pulled away, he would not have stopped his actions. On Thursday, the court was told a neuropsychological report needed to be ordered to assess whether Mr King had a “cognitive impairment”. Magistrate Matthew Walton ordered the report, which had an estimated time of 20 weeks to prepare. He also removed the protective bail condition from Mr King’s bail. Mr King also faced one charge each of failure to comply with a request to give police personal details, and obstructing public officers. He did not enter pleas on any of the charges, and is next due in court on Monday April 7 2025.
