Geraldton Amateur Basketball Association round 15 wrap: Final round of regular season spells end for some
The final round of the Geraldton Amateur Basketball Association regular season played out earlier in the week, with league leaders extending their margin on the ladder as finals approach.
In round 15 on Tuesday night, second-placed Olympians faced off in a fierce battle with third-placed Pumas.
Pumas’ Liam Hunt proved to be the difference scorong 34 points, while teammate Denbi Horstman shot 22 points.
Olympians relied on Jack Stone to score and he dropped 27 points. But it was not enough as Pumas went on to win 89-82.
Olympians and Pumas are now locked in for the first round of finals starting on Monday, February 10.
Round 15 officially kicked off on Monday night with Stateside securing the last spot in the finals for 2025 with a strong win against Trades.
It was a stellar showdown between Stateside’s Johny Narkle and Trades’ Jake Criddle, the two going head-to-head all night.
Narkle dropped 46 points and Criddle answered with 36.
Narkle proved his importance to the Stateside line-up, helping to get his side up 106-86.
The final game, rounding out the regular season, was played on Wednesday night between league leaders Chapman Valley and fifth- placed Hawks.
Chapman Valley had already locked in finals for the 2025 season heading into their final regular game and looked to continue to flex their muscles and that they did, finishing the night 31-point victors.
Valley’s Aaron Ralph led the way with 27 points while Hawk Theo Bennet chalked up 18 points.
Chapman Valley reigned supreme on the night, defeating Hawks 87-56.
Chapman Valley, Olympians, Pumas and Stateside are all advancing to finals.
In the women’s division one, Stateside and Trades faced off on Monday night with Stateside coming out heavy victors.
Charlotte Kennedy shone bright for Stateside with 20 points. Teammates Abbie McDonald and Maddy Graham lent more than a helping set of hands, scoring impressive totals of 16 and 14 points respectively.
Holly Baynes, Samaia Friesen and Jessica Giudice-Nairn all scored eight points, leading the scoring for Trades.
Stateside defeated Trades, 72-47.
Pumas finished their regular season undefeated with Millie Gerreyn starring on the court.
Gerreyn finished the night with 23 points, leading her side to an unbeaten season heading into finals.
Olympians pushed hard through Kylie MacDonald with 15 points, but it wasn’t enough as Pumas ran out 53-30 winners.
Chapman Valley, Trades, Pumas and Stateside are all through to finals next week in the women’s league.
