The Harvey Bulls have endured their second big defeat in a fortnight after proving to be no match for the Carey Park Panthers.

Playing at Harvey Oval on Sunday afternoon as part of their annual Back to Bombers Day celebrating the club’s history, the struggling SWFL league side lost 16.16 (112) to 3.4 (22) to the the stronger-performing visitors.

In a match which saw the Panthers kick nearly five goals for every one scored by the Bulls, the home team were in trouble from early on.

Carey Park kicked two goals and six behinds before Harvey were able to get on the scoreboard in the first quarter, which ended with the visitors leading by 24 points.

Things fractionally improved in the second quarter for the Bulls, who notched two majors and one behind.

Yet the Panthers kept finding holes in the Bulls’ defence, kicking another six goals before the half-time break.

When play resumed, the home team kicked another goal and two behinds, but the visitors expanded their lead to 67 points at the end of the third quarter.

Carey Park had free reign of the scoreboard in the final quarter, scoring another three goals to finish the match with a 90-point victory and a top-four spot on the ladder.

Harry Jones kicked four majors for the winning team, while teammates Kelvin Lawrence, Brady Lenaghan and Rory O’Brien notched up three each.

Hayze Griffiths, Camden McGillivray and Ryder Turner were the goal kickers for the home side.

Earlier in the weekend, Harvey-Brunswick-Leschenault made it three-in-a-row with a easy win against bottom-of-the-ladder Collie.

In the match at Collie Recreation Ground on Saturday afternoon, the visitors returned home with a 13.5 (83) to 7.3 (45) victory.

The Lions got off to a good start in the first quarter, kicking four goals to the Eagles’s two.

HBL were sitting at more than double Collie’s score at the half-time mark, leading by 20 points.

Despite the home side scoring two goals to the visitors’ one in the third quarter, the Eagles struggled to make much of an impact on the margin.

A six goal blitz in the final quarter sealed the deal for the Lions, who won by 38 points.

The three-goal haul of HBL’s Blake Offer saw him be the leading scorer of the match.

Following the success of last year’s inaugural match, both Harvey shire teams will face each other at Brunswick Oval on Saturday in the Sam Strano Cup.
