Celebrations take to city streets
More than 120 smiling Edith Cowan University South West graduates paraded down Bunbury’s Victoria Street to the cheers of proud friends and family on Saturday.
The highest number of graduates were from education, followed by business and nursing, with the 2011 Faculty Medal awarded to Emma Royer for outstanding achievements in her undergraduate degree.
The Bachelor of Education Primary student also received the South West Development Commission Education Prize, awarded to the most outstanding graduate in the Bachelor of Education Primary or Bachelor of Education Primary to Middle Years.
Dean of ECU South West Professor Robert Irvine said the unique graduation parade through the streets was a fun-filled march which was always well supported by the wider Bunbury community as well as graduates’ friends and families.
"The South West graduation ceremony is a highlight for all graduating students and their friends and family and the celebrations are a great opportunity for graduates to mark a very important time in their lives," Prof Irvine said.
"Graduates add great value to the South West and Western Australia and can look forward to long and rewarding careers in their discipline area."
