Shave challenge supports cancer efforts

Hundreds flocked to lose their locks at Bunbury Forum as part of the Leukaemia Foundation’s World’s Greatest Shave on Saturday.

The shopping centre was abuzz with the sound of clippers and master of ceremonies Ashley Dillon kept the crowd revved up as person after person bravely stepped up to shed their hair.

Australind resident Steve Bullock raised just under $5000 as friends and family chipped in to sponsor his first major haircut in half a decade.

“In the past five years I haven’t had much more than the ends trimmed and I thought it was about time to get a proper haircut,” Mr Bullock said.

“My grandfather died of cancer in 2005 and this a great cause so I thought why not just shave it all off ?

Seven-year-old Damon Rossi, whose leukaemia has now been in remission for three years, also decided to shave off his hair in support of other children with the disease.

Leukaemia Foundation community relationships officer Deb Wilkins said she was pleased with the support for the event.

“I was especially impressed with the number of women who made the brave decision to have their heads shaved,” Ms Wilkins said.
