The Force is with him
He may be dressed as an iconic bad-guy but Jacob French is really a white knight in Storm Trooper amour.
Picture by Jo Haworth: White knight Storm Trooper Jacob French was mock arrested by South West Traffic officers, First class constable Leslie Smith, on the weekend.
The 20-year-old Star Wars enthusiast expects to be in Bunbury in the coming days as he walks from Perth to Sydney raising money for the Starlight Foundation.
Mr French is a member of the worldwide 501st Legion, a volunteer organisation which wears quality Star Wars outfits at events to fundraise for various charities.
``Over the course of the trek I will cross four states and cover approximately 5000kms in modified Storm Trooper armour,'' Mr French said.
The former sales assistant quit his job and started his ``Troopertrek'' last Monday.
He aims to arrive in Sydney by December with $50,000 in his pocket for the Starlight Foundation.
To achieve this, he will need to walk 35 to 40 kilometres a day, five days a week, while pushing his 50 kilogram trolley of supplies and wearing his 10 kilogram modified suit of armour.
``I am hoping that by choosing to wear Storm Trooper armour I will be able to gather more attention for the cause I am running for and have a bit of a laugh along the way,’’ Mr French said.
Eight days in Mr French has been stopped numerous times by people wanting to take a picture and ask what he is doing, including South West Traffic officers.
``They pulled me up to see how I was doing and grabbed a quick photo,’’ Mr French said.
``They’ve let other cops around the State know what I’m up to.’’
