Tuart Walk clean up this weekend

Bunbury Herald

Rain hail or shine, Bunbury Deputy Mayor Brendan Kelly and Sue Kalab from South West Environment Centre will be cleaning up the Tuart Forest Walk on Sunday morning.

The life members of SWEC are looking for volunteers to help with the removal of rubbish and weeds to get the walk ready for the City of Bunbury’s entry into the Tidy Towns awards.

The Tidy Towns Sustainable Communities annual awards aim to encourage, motivate and celebrate the social, environmental and economic achievements of regional communities across Australia.

Bunbury has won the WA competition twice and Cr Kelly said the city had entered the competition again this year.

Ms Kalab said volunteers would be able to enjoy the magnificent old tuart trees, birds and fresh air.

‘‘Some early bush orchids are flowering and winter wildflowers too,’’MsKalab said.

Volunteers should meet at the southern end of Ocean Drive in Bunbury and bring their own gloves, water and a snack.

Rubbish bags and other equipment will be provided by South West Environment Centre and the City of Bunbury.

Cr Kelly said he will be there from 8.30am until lunch and a door prize of a mushroom and worm farm has been donated by the City of Bunbury.
