Man accused of dealing drugs in remote Goldfields communities remains in custody after court appearance

A man accused of dealing drugs in remote Aboriginal communities in the Goldfields was arrested after an interstate police drug operation, and remains in custody after a court appearance. Mohammad Mehdi Hussaini, 29, appeared in Kalgoorlie Magistrates Court on Monday charged with 10 counts of offering to supply cannabis in Laverton, Warburton and Ngaanyatjarra-Giles. He is also accused of possessing stolen or unlawfully obtained property, drug paraphernalia and prohibited drugs with intent to sell or supply. Mr Hussaini was arrested and charged in August after a property in the Docker River Community in the Northern Territory was searched by police from the Goldfields-Esperance district and the WA drug and firearm squad along with officers from Northern Territory Police. He was granted bail during a previous court appearance but remains in custody in Eastern Goldfields Regional Prison due to a condition of bail requiring proof he does not have a current travel document. Magistrate Paul Lyons told Mr Hussaini’s defence lawyer there is a current Australian travel document preventing his release. No pleas have been entered to any charges. The matter will come before the court later this month.
