Kalgoorlie-Boulder Basketball Association president Rob Tagliaferri declared Goldfields Giants development squad player Sam Morrow a future NBL1 star after he led the WABL Championship men’s division for total points scored.

Morrow racked-up 333 points to lead the way from Geraldton’s Liam Bennett (259 points) and South-West’s Mayuol Makuac (248).

It was an impressive follow-up by the 22-year-old to a dominant KBBA summer campaign for CBC when he scored a competition-best 436 points across 17 games.

There is no harder worker than Sam Morrow in Kalgoorlie-Boulder basketball (as) a very dedicated and committed player,” Tagliaferri said.

“Sam’s form as the top scorer in D-League (WABL) is an acknowledgement of his efforts to continually improve himself as a basketballer.

“This hasn’t (just) been over the last few years — it’s been ever since I’ve known Sam.

“His work ethic is amazing and it’s not only his scoring but his defensive work which should be acknowledged as well.

“It is a credit to him, and we are starting to see him being awarded with more court time in the NBL 1 team, which is thoroughly deserved as he’s earned it through sheer determination and persistence.

“There’s no doubt that Sam, with his attitude, will continue to get even better and may end up being one of the longest serving and best Giants players we have had.”
