Railways turned in a powerful second half to beat Kalgoorlie by 16 points, 11.11 (77) to 9.7 (61), last Saturday in the opening round of the Goldfields Football League’s colts division.

The Panthers trailed by 17 points at the main break but rallied for 8.6 the rest of the way to seal a first-up win.

Kalgoorlie’s bright start was wasted, with the second half producing just 3.3.

Jayden Spackman (three goals) and LeBron Yarran (two goals) led Railways’ charge, with Zinzan Clark and Jake Tucker each booting two for Kalgoorlie.

Mines Rovers led at every change in their 33-point win against Boulder, 10.14 (74) to 6.5 (41).

Most of the Diorites’ best work was done in the opening half, which produced an efficient 8.3.

Boulder held them to 2.11 after the main break, but added just 3.4 themselves.

For the winners, Charlie Scafidi and Alex Falla booted two goals, as did Mark Stokes for Boulder.

In the opening round of reserves matches, Lee Poyner booted four goals in Railways’ win against Kalgoorlie, 13.12 (90) to 7.5 (47).

Kalgoorlie enjoyed a four-goal opening term, but it was generally tough going the rest of the way as the Panthers assumed control.

Connor Hart was the Roos’ best forward with three goals.

Eric Walter and Nick Willis booted three goals each in Mines Rovers’ demolition of Boulder, 19.8 (122) to 4.6 (30).

Harrison Morgan kicked three goals in a losing effort for Boulder, who are chasing a third consecutive flag this season.
