Lotto: Serpentine-Jarrahdale couple’s nervous wait to claim Millionaire Medley prize
A couple’s anxious wait to claim their winning $1m Lotto ticket over the long weekend might have resulted in the cleanest house in the Shire of Serpentine-Jarrahdale.
Believing they’d won a Division One prize in Friday night’s Millionaire Medley, the couple resorted to the ultimate exercise in time-killing as they anticipated submitting their winning numbers to Lotto staff days later.
“I would have checked the ticket more than 100 times,” the woman in her 40s told a Lotterywest staff member after Monday’s public holiday.
“Friday night was hard, we couldn’t sleep, I ended up cleaning the house just to distract myself.”
The couple’s nerves were to put to rest when staff were able to confirm their numbers did indeed match that of a Division One win valued at $1 million.
Lotterywest spokesperson James Mooney suggested it was common for players to await the final tick from Lotto staff before celebrating their lucky payday.
“For many of our winners, they want to hear the confirmation they’ve won from our Customer Service team in the Winner’s Room before the reality of the win sinks in,” he said.
“Thanks to this $1 million prize, these winners can take their weekends back and hopefully spend less time cleaning.”
