Zane Marwick solidified his dominant season in the Geraldton Bendigo Bank Cricket League with a century in Wanderers’ win over Sportsmans on Saturday.

He made 101 (127 balls) with a six and eight fours. Marwick’s scores this season are 59, 23, 33, 56, 57 and 101 for 329 runs at 54.83, along with 16 wickets at 7.62 and eight catches.

Originally from Albany, Marwick joined Wanderers last summer and in 22 games has 883 runs, 32 wickets and 18 catches.

“I was fortunate everything was in pretty good order from the start. They had periods where they bowled well and I rode my luck, but a really pleasing day,” Marwick said.

“Each batsman batted long enough to allow us to string small partnerships together, all contributions to the team total.”

Hopefully the 30-year-old is available for country week.

“That depends on work but I’d love to represent Geraldton,” he said.

Wanderers batted first at GBSC Park after Kade Gillingham won the toss and those small partnerships were indeed vital in Wanderers’ 9-207. The next highest was Ian Oglesby’s 16.

Jarrod Jupp (3-24), who caught and bowled Marwick, and Matt Greenlees (2-32) had the best figures.

Sportsmans replied with 153. Darcy Ingle (27), Jupp (27) and Archie Bougard (20) made starts but Oglesby (2-14) and Rex Heberle (2-18) bowled well.

At the Rec, Towns were 103-run winners over Bluff Point. Ringo McKenna also batted after he won the toss and Towns tallied 9-202.

They were 7-134 when Josh DeLacy (43 not out) went in and his highest score in A-grade was crucial.

Jeremy Bedford (28), McKenna (25), Kodi Giltrow (21), Austin Breen (19), Callum Marquis (18) and Jai Russell (16) also made runs.

Wickets went to Matt Russell (3-42), Jay O’Brien (2-24), Mitch McAuliffe (2-46) and Antonio Paradella (2-52).

A highlight was a superb leaping one-handed grab from O’Brien at mid-off that sent Sam Crouch back for a duck.

The Pointers made only 99 with McAuliffe (26) and Callum Joss (17) top scorers.

They were 4-66 when Crouch enjoyed a three-wicket first over. He ended with a career best 6-10 and four catches, two off his bowling and two in slips where he excels.

Towns also beat Sportsmans in a Young Motors T20 at Wonthella on Friday. Towns made 4-123 with McKenna (31 not out) and Giltrow (33) the mainstays.

Sportsmans conceded 20 wides and a no-ball which hurt them in the chase. They were positive but DeLacy (2-14 off four overs) stymied Sportsmans and they finished on 5-108.

Glenn Wishart (47) added 66 with Matt Greenlees (29) but Travis Morgan bowled a tight spell. When Wishart was superbly caught by Seth Farmer off McKenna the end was near.
