More than $630,000 worth of drugs seized in major bust as Alfred approaches

More than $630,000 worth of meth, heroin and cannabis has been seized during proactive patrols ahead of ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred.

Gold Coast detectives were sent to carry out the patrols focused on community safety ahead of ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred — since downgraded to a tropical low — when they came across a man on a motorbike on Newcastle St in Burleigh Heads just after 11.30am Friday.

The man allegedly placed a bag in a parked silver VW Golf before riding away.

Officers were able to intercept the car, where they found 2.1kg of methamphetamine, 22.6g of heroin, a small amount of cannabis, cash, mobile phones, a taser and a flick knife.

“Obviously I just saw that motorbike pull up and drop something in the back of the car,” an officer can be heard saying in footage released by police.

A man, who police will allege was the driver of the motorbike, then approached the car while police were searching it and allegedly said his backpack was in the car.

A stolen Ducati Panigale motorbike was also found and seized nearby, while the 37-year-old alleged driver from Browns Plains was taken into custody.

He was charged with one count each of possess dangerous drugs, supply dangerous drugs, possess things used in crime, unlawful use of a motor vehicle and disqualified driving.

The alleged driver of the car — a 46-year-old man from Indooroopilly — was also taken into custody.

He was charged with three counts of possessing dangerous drugs, two counts of unlawful possession of a weapon and one count each of supply dangerous drugs, possess thing used in commission of a crime, possess property suspected to be proceeds of crime and possess utensils.

Both men are set to front Cairns Magistrates Court on Saturday via videolink.

Police have asked anyone with information to come forward.
