Smoke alerts issued for Jarrahdale, Dwellingup, Pinjarra, Mandurah, Two Rocks and Quinns Rocks
Prescribed burns across Perth have prompted two smoke alerts for the metropolitan area.
The Parks and Wildlife Service issued an alert at 9.27am on Tuesday for those in Perth’s southern suburbs and Peel region — including Jarrahdale, Dwellingup, Pinjarra and Mandurah — after a prescribed burn 30km west of Beverley.
Another smoke alert was issued at the same time for residents in suburbs between Two Rocks and Quinns Rocks following prescribed burns in the Pinjar and Yanchep plantations.
Both alerts stated “smoke may settle in low lying areas overnight” but should clear on Wednesday morning.
Emergency WA has advised motorists to avoid the area and residents in alert zones to do the following:
- Shut doors and windows and turn off air-conditioners.
- If driving through the area, turn on headlights and drive slowly. If you cannot see clearly, pull over to the left, keep your headlights and hazard lights on, and wait until the smoke clears.
- People with asthma and pre-existing respiratory or cardiovascular illnesses should follow their pre-prepared treatment plan.
- If affected by smoke, contact your doctor or call Health Direct on 1800 022 222.
- Watch for emergency services personnel and follow their directions.
