Did video steal the radio sign?

Harvey Community Radio presenters have been been left scratching their heads after their new sign was pinched off South Western Highway, only a month after going on display.

Radio presenter Duncan Booth said he became aware of the theft at the end of February and initially thinking the easterly wind was the culprit.

“I re-drilled all the holes, and I had nine of the biggest rivets I could find holding it up — and I put it up perfectly,” he said.

“When I learned it was gone I initially thought ‘oh, classic the easterly has got it’, but it’s surrounded by trees and there’s no broken sign.

“Then I saw the drill holes.”

Mr Booth believes the sign was intentionally removed by someone and is now likely on display in a shed somewhere.

“You know, it’s not the Mona Lisa, where you’d hide it away in a small back room for only you to enjoy,” he said.

“It would be on display in somebody’s shed, no doubt.”

Mr Booth said while it was not a work of priceless art, the sign had been a fairly substantial investment for the community radio station and replacing it would now prove a challenge.

“We run on a bit of a shoestring and while this is good for publicity, every dollar counts,” he said.

Mr Booth said he was hoping to have the sign returned and if anyone had any information about its whereabouts, there would be “no questions asked”.

“Just hand it back, we’ll be happy and move on,” he said.
