Fyona Sheree Bradshaw says she was threatened into trying to sneak meth into Kalgoorlie-Boulder prison

A woman claims she was threatened into attempting to sneak meth into Eastern Goldfields Regional Prison by hiding balloons filled with the drug in her bra while visiting her former partner. Kalgoorlie Magistrates Court was on Monday told Fyona Sheree Bradshaw “did as she was told” when she brought 1.35g of meth into EGRP before being strip-searched during a visit to her ex-partner in July. Two balloons filled with the drug were found hidden in her bra. Her defence lawyer told the court during her sentencing on Monday that her former boyfriend had been approached by people inside the prison and asked him to tell her to bring the drugs in. He said Bradshaw was then approached by people outside the prison and had been threatened. With her past relationship being “marred by domestic violence and coercive control” Bradshaw’s lawyer said she “did as she was told” and it was a “big mistake”. He said she had a limited record of mostly traffic and drug paraphernalia charges and had self-referred herself for alcohol and drug counselling since her arrest. He also said the single mother of two was a few months pregnant, and a character reference was provided by a community member in support of Bradshaw. Bradshaw pleaded guilty to possession of prohibited drugs with intent to sell or supply, and brought article into prison with intent to breach order, security or good government. Chief magistrate Steven Heath said her offending was “very serious” because of the element of the prison. “Within the prison environment the introduction of drugs can have a very serious effect on the order and stability within the prison,” he said. “It is a matter that normally attracts immediate imprisonment.” However, due to her limited record, the circumstances her offending arose from and the fact she co-operated with police, he sentenced her to 10 months jail suspended for 12 months. 1800 RESPECT (1800 737 732)
