Hannan Street footpath upgrades completed, with Burt Street next on the list

The era of rickety pavers on Kalgoorlie’s main street has finally ended, with long-awaited upgrades to the CBD recently completed. Replacement works had been under way for the past few months as the wobbly, damaged pavers were replaced with concrete, which has now been sprayed with a speckled finish. Kalgoorlie-Boulder mayor Glenn Wilson said there were still some “final touches” in the works, but the project was otherwise completed. He said Burt Street would be next in line to receive the makeover next year. “Council saw that the need to progress the footpath program was a bit more of a priority, so we moved it forward in our mid-year budget review for 23-24, and now the final result is well-known around the top end of Hannan Street and surrounds,” he said. “Many people have been very appreciative of the work that’s taken place. There has been some small disruption, but the end result is we’ve got a footpath that is a lot more solid and a lot more accessible for many of our residents. “The spray-on surface is obviously about the aesthetic appeal but also, as we’ve seen with the wet weather this week, it does have that non-slip factor to it as well, which creates a safer environment for pedestrians.”
