Harvey’s St Anne’s School marks region’s multiculturalism with Harmony Day celebrations

A regional primary school celebrated multiculturalism last week with games, songs and dance for Harmony Day.
Students from St Anne’s School in Harvey showed off their best cultural dress while taking part in multicultural activities from dancing the tarantella to playing ddakji.
The school celebrates the day every second year, going all out to draw attention to the multiple nationalities present at the primary school.
Behind the day’s activities was Year Three teacher Glencora Rowling, who said it was greatly important for the school to recognise the students’ multiculturalism and celebrate diverse homelands.
“We’ve all come from different places, but everyone belongs — it’s all about community,” she said.
“We had a concert, which started off with a line dance preformed by four of our children in years One and Two.
“After that we had the Filipino singing group here, so the children got up and sang a song and we had some of the mothers in a dance from the Harvey Filipino dancers.”
