Pooches of all shapes and sizes receive free vet checks and more at RSPCA Community Action Day
Community members turned out in droves last week to give their furry friends free vet checks, parasite control and food.
Hounds and their owners gathered at Bunbury’s Hay Park Pavilion on Friday to take part in the RSPCA Community Action Day.
RSPCA staff and volunteers carried out health checks and micro-chipping for dogs.
Other groups were also in attendance, like SAFE Bunbury, offering its expertise, and K9 Connections, offering training tips.
RSPCA South West inspector Genna Haines said it was great to have so many people use the services.
“It’s really good to see such a variation of dogs here, and owners wanting to take advantage of the event that we’ve put on,” she said.
She said the event was often a highlight of the year for the RSPCA, with the event taking place in Busselton last year.
“Bunbury is really good. Being the second-biggest city (in Western Australia) the population here is obviously pretty big and pretty central,” she said.
“Events like this are really important. It’s all hands on deck for everybody at the moment, and times are hard with the cost of living, so this is the RSPCA’s way of supporting the community.”
