Upgrades to sport and recreation spaces could be on the cards for the Warren-Blackwood region, with WA Labor committing $50,000 to the cause if re-elected next month.

Warren-Blackwood MLA Jane Kelsbie announced re-election commitments to the Nannup Recreation Centre canteen and Bridgetown District High School on Thursday.

She said a $30,000 funding commitment to upgrade the recreation centre canteen would help meet the needs of local sporting groups, volunteers, and the wider community.

The upgraded canteen would also play a key role in fundraising efforts and be an asset as Nannup prepares to host the UCI Gravel World Championships in 2026.

“The Nannup Recreation Centre is a hub for the community, bringing together local sporting groups, volunteers, and families,” Ms Kelsbie said.

“This $30,000 commitment will help upgrade the canteen, making it more functional and better equipped to support events, fundraisers, and community activities.

A $20,000 election commitment to Bridgetown District High School is promised to support the fundraising efforts of the school’s P&C.

“The funding, which complements $30,000 raised by the school’s P&C, will contribute to the construction of a new, secure sports shed, providing a space to safely store the school’s sports equipment,” Ms Kelsbie said.

“This project will promote physical activity and help the school purchase additional equipment for student use.

“By providing a safe and secure space for sports equipment, we are helping Bridgetown District High School maintain high-quality resources that encourage students to engage in physical activities and stay healthy.”
