Traffic police have blitzed Bunbury’s back streets and slow lanes over the past two weeks.

Almost 200 drivers were caught doing the wrong thing, in an operation targeting build-up areas.

Acting Sgt Robert Malcolm said he was disappointed to see so many people ignoring the 50kmh speed limits in built-up areas. Officers issued 199 infringements.

“We’d rather not catch anyone, ” he said.

Sgt Malcolm said that if a driver was unsure of the speed limit they should assume it was 50kmh.

“Look to see if there are buildings or street lights, if there is one or the other it’s a built-up area, unless the signs tell you differently, ” he said.

The operation was targeted at roads where residents had reported seeing drivers speeding.
