Aqua Spectacular record

Bunbury Herald

Bunbury's long weekend Aquaspectacular attracted record numbers for various events at the weekend — drawing

an estimated 25,000 people.

The community was invited to participate and watch more than 20 events in Bunbury over the Labour Day long weekend.

Coordinator David Kerr said organisers were still going through the outcomes of the weekend and had not finalised the numbers.

“Saturday numbers were good and I was surprised by how many people turned up for Sunday events,” he said.

“Not only did events have a lot of community participation, there was also a happy atmosphere.”

Mr Kerr said about 140 people took part in the 31st Barrett Bunbury Swim Thru, while 1500 visited the Dolphin Discovery Centre and about 8000 were at the speedway on Sunday.

“Dragon boats, the Multicultural Festival and the 59th annual Koombana Bay Sailing Club regatta also experienced high numbers,” he said.

“The Try Scuba Diving event reported about 50 people, five times the previous occasions.”

Mr Kerr said planning for next year’s Aqua Spectacular would start later this month.

“We already have (extra) events we want in for next year,” he said.

“The model we use where we have organisers for each event and a coordinating body is starting to prove itself.”
