Athletes flying high at SWAS awards
Up-and-coming cyclist Bradley Linfield is riding high after winning not one, but two prizes at the South West Academy of Sport’s annual awards dinner.
The 18-year-old capped off a remarkable year in style when he was named the SWAS Sports Star of the Year at Sanctuary Golf Resort on Friday night.
Linfield also took out the distinction of the Male Athlete of the Year — Individual Sports Program. The spotlight also shone on boxing champion Nathaniel May, who secured the Emerging Star Award.
Surfing sensation Mikaela Greene took out the Female Athlete of the Year Award — Individual Sports Program, while the Team Female Athlete of the Year Award was claimed by Western Fury cricketer Chloe Piparo.
Emerging football talent Connor Blakely received the Team Male Athlete of the Year Award.
The Community Achieve r Award was presented to swimmer Lyndon Goldsmith.
Jamie Douse, who coordinates the SWAS high performance football program, won the Wally Foreman Award.
