With five debutants in their ranks, South West were brushed aside 108-70 by an impressive Buccaneers unit at the Eaton Recreation Centre.
The Slammers’ inexperience was compounded even beforecc tip-off when 31-year-old import Carlos White – the oldest member of their roster – was barred from playing due to troubles with his visa.
Athletic Buccs' forward Aaron Ralph was unstoppable, scoring 35 points and bringing down 13 rebounds.
For South West, Anton Fimmano and captain Trent Worthington both scored 13 points, while in his first senior game Mitch Bradbury provided some highlights for the Slammers with a double-double.
He played almost 40 minutes, had 10 rebounds and scored 15 points.
The Slammers' second import, Senario Hillman, had an underwhelming debut fouled off in the third period with just 11 points to his name.
South West will clash with East Perth next Saturday night in Perth.
